VJ Day Commemoration - the 80th Anniversary

On Friday 15 August the nation will mark the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day). Derby Cathedral will be playing its part in observing the anniversary of what was effectively the end of the Second World War.
We invite you to join us in a special service in Derby Cathedral to be held at 5.30 p.m. This will be a quieter and more reflective service than the one we held to mark VE Day. It is important to avoid any sense of those who fought in the Far East being forgotten and the mood of the service needs to take account of both their intense and long-term suffering and of the way the war ended.
Derby Cathedral houses memorial plaques from that campaign and regimental colours of the Sherwood Foresters, and we know that individuals will bring personal and family memories to the service.
We appreciate that this is the middle of the holiday season and that some people will be away. This is an open invitation and we encourage you to share it with your contacts. It would be helpful if you let us know if you are able to attend so that we can arrange the seating plan and accommodate any who have special needs.
