Friends of Derby Cathedral

The Friends of Derby Cathedral form a network of support for the work of the Cathedral, care of the fabric, the improvement of facilities and help towards maintaining the heritage of the building.

Through subscriptions, legacies, donations and fund raising events, the Friends provide money which is then used for approved Cathedral projects.  Friends receive newsletters informing of projects to support, invitations to talks of interest and visits to other cathedral and churches.

Recent talks have been about Bess of Hardwick and her relationship with two Queens – Elizabeth 1st and Mary Queen of Scots.  A further talk is about the effects of the Reformation on the three choirs of Hereford, Worcester and Bristol.

A visit to Birmingham cathedral is planned for 2024.

A recent major financial contribution by the Friends has been a 50% contribution towards the new cathedral broadcasting system which enables those who cannot easily attend services to see them on Youtube.

A recent grant by the Friends was towards the procurement of a new Advent candle stand.
