This morning The Dean of Derby made the following statement to the Cathedral Community:
‘The Bishop of Derby, with the warm support of the Dean of Derby, is announcing today the appointment of the Rev’d Lindsay Pearson as Canon for Worship and Music at Derby Cathedral. Lindsay is currently the Priest in Charge of St Michael and All Angels, Cottingley and Holy Trinity Bingley with St Wilfrid, Gilstead in Leeds’ Diocese.’
‘Lindsay is a former secondary school music teacher who worked in the inner city of Derby, and is a gifted musician. Lindsay has served as a parish priest not only in the Diocese of Leeds but before that in the Diocese of Blackburn where she was also a secondary school chaplain. Lindsay was a Derby Diocesan ordinand who trained at College of the Resurrection, Mirfield.’
‘We look forward to welcoming Lindsay to Derby Cathedral in the month of June. A date for her Collation and Installation as Residentiary Canon will be announced shortly. This announcement is being made subject to all legal and safeguarding requirements being fulfilled.’
The Bishop of Derby says: ‘We are looking forward to welcoming Lindsay back to the Diocese of Derby. She will bring many gifts and insights to the role of Canon for Worship and Music, not least in her creativity and love for the Anglican Choral tradition. Please join me in praying for Lindsay as she prepares to exercise this leadership role amongst us, both in Derby Cathedral and across the diocese.’
The Dean of Derby says: ‘I am delighted to make the announcement that Lindsay is to become our first Canon for Worship and Music. The Chapter of Derby Cathedral and the clergy and laity of Derby Cathedral very much look forward to working with Lindsay as we together develop the life and mission of the Cathedral Church. Lindsay is passionate about the church’s work with children, and we look forward to sharing in Lindsay’s energy for inclusive Christian ministry and witness.’
The Rev’d Lindsay Pearson says: ‘I am very much looking forward to joining the team at this exciting and important time in Derby Cathedral’s history. I’ve always hoped to serve in this role one day, and I am thrilled to have the chance to do so. I cannot wait to get started, meet everyone, and sing some Evensong!’
