Can you help to make Choral Evensong a UNESCO world heritage tradition?

Written on 24/02/2026

Cathedral Music Trust, together with leading organisations across the choral and church music community, is urging the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to recognise English Sacred Choral Music as Living Heritage within the UK’s inventory of intangible cultural heritage (ICH).

This campaign has been shaped through extensive consultation with partners including the Royal College of Organists, Cathedral Organists Association, Conference of Catholic Directors of Music, Royal School of Church Music, Church Commissioners, Choir Schools Association, Association of English Cathedrals, Rodolfus Foundation, the Three Choirs Festival, and Professor Simone Krüger Bridge of Liverpool John Moores University.

By adding your name – whether as an individual supporter or on behalf of an organisation –  you will help strengthen this national call for recognition. Supporters will join a growing community of advocates committed to safeguarding, celebrating, and sustaining this distinctive musical tradition for future generations.
