Cathedrals Measure 2021

The Cathedrals Measure 2021 is the legislation that sets out how cathedrals are governed. All English Cathedrals are now dual regulated by the Church Commissioners and the Charity Commission. Derby Cathedral became a registered charity on 9^th April 2024 (charity number: 1207768). Members of Chapter are charity trustees who have the responsibility to ensure the charity is operated for public benefit.

 There are four statutory committees under the Cathedrals Measure 2021: Finance Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, Nominations Committee and Safeguarding Committee. These committees provide governance support and advice to the Chapter and play a vital role in the governance framework for cathedrals. An Advisory Body is currently being developed, called the Cathedral Community Advisory Body ensuring the Cathedral community can have a voice and provide advice to the Chapter on matters requested by the Dean and the Chapter.
