The Chapter members of Derby Cathedral wish to convey their deep grief and shock at the terrorist shooting of members of the Jewish community celebrating the beginning of Hanukkah at Bondi Beach, Australia.
The Bishop of Derby has said ‘We stand in solidarity and sadness with our Jewish brothers and sisters who, once again, have been subjected to violence and terror in the shooting at Bondi Beach in Australia. We stand against antisemitism in all its forms. Our prayers are with those who have lost loved ones and who have been injured, and for those in our communities in Derbyshire who are experiencing grief and fear. We pray too for a renewed commitment towards peace and understanding among all communities.’
Prayers for the victims of the attack and for the Jewish community will be offered daily in Derby Cathedral, and The Dean of Derby invites all who wish to come and pray for peace.
