Derby Cathedral Choir receives grant from Cathedral Music Trust
Derby Cathedral is delighted to have been awarded a grant to support its music department from Cathedral Music Trust, through its recent Revenue Grants scheme. The grant of £9,500 will help pay for the Cathedral’s Lay Clerks, who are professional choral singers. The Lay Clerks are an integral part of Derby Cathedral Choir, helping to provide inspiring music and worship, as well as acting as mentors to the choristers.
The Lay Clerks sing as part of Derby Cathedral Choir in at least three choral services each week, and the grant will enable this to continue.
It costs over £126,000 to fund music at Derby Cathedral, so this financial support from Cathedral Music Trust is gratefully received and will help alleviate the financial challenges the Cathedral faces as it recovers from the economic effects of COVID-19 and the current cost of living crisis.
‘The Cathedral Music Trust grant is hugely appreciated. Our Lay Clerks contribute towards the excellence of music at Derby Cathedral and its strong reputation, which has helped to promote an awareness and appreciation of Cathedral music to a wider audience than those who worship here.’ Alexander Binns, Director of Music at Derby Cathedral
Derby Cathedral Choir is renowned for providing outstanding choral music as part of regular services, as well as special civic services such as the Remembrance Service for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and concerts.
