At Derby Cathedral, we believe children bring energy, curiosity, and joy to our community, and we are committed to making the Cathedral a welcoming place for families of all kinds.

Here you’ll find details about our children’s activities, clubs, and events, all created to help young people explore, learn, play, and feel at home in this special building. We’re here to help you and your children discover the Cathedral in fun and meaningful ways.

Sunday School

During our Sunday morning Eucharist service at 10:45, we run a Sunday School (during term-time), whereby children can explore their faith, make new friends and learn through play!

It is a fun and welcoming space for children where there is plenty of crafts, music, games and bible stories.

Small Sounds

Families are able to attend free, term-time, weekly music sessions with their 0-5’s. Run by a member of the Cathedral Music Department’s highly respected team, the sessions will take families and their little ones on a journey of musical discovery. Through songs and play, the sessions will help the youngsters to find their voices and experience the joy of singing.

Junior Choir

The Junior Choir provides a great musical experience for youngsters, nurturing young talent and providing fun and educational opportunities. It is a non-auditioned choir for children aged 5 to 9 who want to have fun and learn more about music, but it also provides training for children who may want to go on to become Choristers in the Cathedral Choir. The Junior Choir is run by Rhiannon Robinson, our Choral Director for Schools, who is one of the most engaging children’s choral trainers in the region.
