Derby Cathedral’s Director of Music Alexander Binns appointed Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
Derby Cathedral are delighted to announce that Alexander Binns, Derby Cathedral’s Director of Music has been appointed as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. This award recognises and celebrates those graduates of the Royal Academy of Music who have made a significant contribution to the musical landscape.
The Dean of Derby, The Very Revd Dr Peter Robinson says

‘We are very proud of our Director of Music and celebrate this fine achievement with him. Alex will have this award conferred later in 2024 at a special graduation ceremony. I know that everyone in the Cathedral Community including all our musicians and their families will join with me in sending good wishes and congratulations’

Alexander Binns, Derby Cathedral’s Director of Music says
‘I’m honoured to have been elected an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, where I spent five happy years as an undergraduate and postgraduate from 2010 to 2015. It’s a real privilege to be joining a long list of former Academy students who have been given this award, and I’m delighted that some of the work I’ve done in championing the music at Derby Cathedral has been recognised by my alma mater.’
