Derby Cathedral became a registered charity

After nearly two years of hard work, and to comply with the new Cathedrals Measure (2021), we are delighted to announce that Derby Cathedral became a registered charity on Tuesday 9 April 2024. This means we are now dual regulated with the Church Commissioners and the Charity Commission.

As part of the new framework, Chapter members become Trustees and are bound by the Charity Commission’s Code of Conduct. The Cathedrals Measure (2021) provides a structure to increase the size of Chapter and as a result, it is with great pleasure that I announce the following members of Chapter are:

Canon Mark Titterton – Senior Non-Executive member of Chapter (SNEM)

Hon. David Legh – Non-Executive Lay Member of Chapter

Mrs Val Grahl – Non-Executive Lay Member of Chapter

Mrs Gwyneth Shooter – Non-Executive Lay Member of Chapter

Mr Stephen Lamont – Non-Executive Lay Member of Chapter

The Venerable Matthew Trick, Archdeacon of Derby City and South Derbyshire – Residentiary Canon and member of Chapter

The two Commissioners’ Canons – The Canon for Community Learning and The Precentor (currently vacant) and the Dean are also members of Chapter as part of their appointed role within a Cathedral. The Dean of Derby chairs the Chapter.

We welcome our three new members of Chapter – Gwyneth, Stephen and Matthew – to their new responsibilities. We are grateful to Val, David and Mark for their continuing service as Chapter members, and to Mark for taking on the responsibility of being the Senior Non-Executive Member of Chapter.
