Sanctuary Sunday at Derby Cathedral

The Cathedral was delighted to welcome The Revd Dr Inderjit Bhogal OBE as guest preacher at the Eucharist. A theologian, Methodist minister and co-founder of the UK’s first City of Sanctuary, Dr Bhogal spoke movingly about the importance of hospitality, compassion and standing in solidarity with those seeking refuge.

As part of the celebrations, Derby Cathedral also recognised the successful reappraisal of its Cathedral of Sanctuary Award, affirming its continued dedication to creating a culture of inclusion, safety and belonging.

Following the service, the congregation and visitors gathered for a shared lunch in the Cathedral, offering an opportunity to connect, share stories and enjoy fellowship together.

Sanctuary Sunday provided a meaningful reminder of the Cathedral’s role in fostering a welcoming community, and its commitment to working alongside others to ensure Derby remains a place of refuge and hope.
