Schools’ creative Earth project on display in Derby Cathedral

Written on 09/11/2022

An exhibition at Derby Cathedral will showcase creative artworks from Derbyshire Primary Schools as part of Christian Aid’s Letters for Creation initiative.

Artwork from four selected schools will be available to see in the Cavendish Area of Derby Cathedral from 14th November – 2nd December 2022.

A mix of collage, drawings and paintings reflects the children’s understanding of the Earth, or their hopes for it, in the context of climate change, climate justice and environmental sustainability.

Participating children were from Years 1-6 attending Bishop Longsdale Derby, All Saints Primary Matlock, Pilsley Church of England and Weston-on-Trent Church of England Primary.

Schools across the county and diocese were invited by the Cathedral to take part in Letters for Creation, as part of celebrating the recent presentation of Luke Jerram’s ‘Gaia’ at Derby Cathedral.  The installation of a giant Earth suspended above the nave, attracted thousands of visitors to the Cathedral to reflect on environmental issues and our place as humans on the planet.
