Holy Week

Monday 14th April
8:30 – Morning Prayer (This service will be live streamed)
13:00 – Holy Communion
18:30 – Address and Compline – Throughout Holy Week, The Revd Dr Alan Flintham will be preaching a series of addresses titled ‘The People of the Passion: key characters on the road to the cross’. His first address ‘A Cast of Characters’ will be followed by Compline at 19:00, sung by the Lay Clerks of the Cathedral Choir. (This service will be live streamed)

Tuesday 15th April

8:30 – Morning Prayer (This service will be live streamed)
13:00 – Holy Communion
18:30 – Address and Compline – The Revd Dr Alan Flintham’s second address ‘A Gathering Storm’ will be followed by Compline at 19:00, sung by the Lay Clerks of the Cathedral Choir. (This service will be live streamed)

Wednesday 16th April

8:30 – Morning Prayer (This service will be live streamed)

13:00 – Holy Communion

18:30 – Address and Compline – The Revd Dr Alan Flintham’s third address ‘A Double Betrayal’ will be followed by Compline at 19:00, sung by the Lay Clerks of the Cathedral Choir. (This service will be live streamed)

Maundy Thursday 17th April

11:00 – Diocesan Eucharist
Sung by the Cathedral Choir with the Renewal of Reader and Ordination Commitments and the Blessing of the Holy Oils
Preacher: The Venerable Karen Hamblin, Archdeacon of East Derbyshire (This service will be live streamed)

18:30 – The Eucharist of The Last Supper
Sung by the Cathedral Choir followed by the stripping of the altar and silent vigil for one hour (This service will be live streamed)

Good Friday 18th April

8:30 – Morning Prayer (This service will be live streamed)

12:00 noon – The Preaching of the Cross Three further addresses from The Revd Dr Alan Flintham are based on words from the Nicene Creed: ‘He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death, and was buried’. These are interspersed with hymns, prayers, and silence; and lead straight into The Liturgy of the Passion at 13:30. (This service will be live streamed)

13:30 – The Liturgy of The Passion Sung by the Cathedral Voluntary Choir, including the singing of the Passion according to John, the Proclamation of the Cross, and the last of The Revd Dr Alan Flintham’s addresses: ‘Behold the Wood of the Cross’. (This service will be live streamed)

19:30 – Bach St John Passion with Derby Cathedral Choir and Sinfonia Viva (Tickets available on our website)

Easter Eve
Saturday 19th April
8:30 – Morning Prayer at the Bridge Chapel

20:30 – The Easter Liturgy
The service begins with the Vigil as we hear Old Testament stories of our salvation history. Then the Easter candle is lit as we proclaim ‘Christ
our Light’ risen from the dead. The service continues with the Liturgy of Initiation and the corporate renewal of baptismal promises, and concludes with the anticipation of gathering again in the morning for the Eucharist of Easter Day.

10:45 – Cathedral Eucharist Sung by the Cathedral Choir Preacher: The Right Revd Libby Lane, Bishop of Derby (This service will be live streamed)
