The Inspiration behind the poem
‘I often wonder if buildings and places could talk what would they say, what stories would they share with the listener?
Places like a beautiful Cathedral or a humble Parish Church must have a story, there are clues left by its parishioners, in its monuments and treasures, its records and fading standards laid to rest high above your head.
There are places that enchant me and bid me back and there are places I never wish again to return. I am a curious and imaginative person and I enjoy finding out about places and people, legends and tales and old folklore.
I was approached by The Dean to join a group at our Cathedral to look at visitor engagement and what story All Saints could tell. Listening to my colleagues and feeling their passion about the heritage and all that it could offer, inspired me to write this poem, to capture the essence of a what I feel is a living breathing building, our beautiful welcoming Cathedral of All Saints in Derby.’ – Tracy Lowe
