Christmas Services at Derby Cathedral

Written on 14/11/2022

As we near the Christmas period we invite communities in Derby and Derbyshire to share in the joy of advent by joining us at one of our Christmas Services as we look forward to the coming of God.

Our programme of Christmas Services begins with a ‘Darkness to Light’ Advent Service where we will reflect in scripture and music on the themes of Advent, featuring a spectacular transformation as the Cathedral interior begins in darkness and ends in light.

‘Sing Christmas’ returns with Christmas favourites in this informal lunchtime service of congregational carols for all the family, with organist accompaniment. We will also be holding two further Carol Services throughout advent including Christmas Eve, where you can enjoy a mix of traditional carols and bible readings.

Alongside the Cathedral Carol services we invite you to come along to our Family Nativity Service, a simple service in which the Angel Gabriel tells the Christmas story. This is a wonderful family service and children are encouraged to come dressed up as their favourite nativity character and get involved in the story!

As always, we will also be gathering for Midnight mass on Christmas Eve and for the Christmas Day Cathedral Eucharist which will be led by the Bishop of Derby with the Great Cathedral Choir.

View our full programme of Seasonal Services for dates and times of each service. None of our services are ticketed, so no need to book.
