On Wednesday 14th September Derby Cathedral held a Service of Commemoration and Thanksgiving for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The Service was attended by dignitaries including His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Derbyshire, the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, the Mayor of the City of Derby and the Civic Chairman of Derbyshire County Council as well as members of the public who came along to pay their respects and mark the passing of the monarch.
The service was led by the Very Revd Dr Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby, with readings from Councillor Robin Wood, the Mayor of Derby, Elizabeth Fothergill CBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, and Councillor David Wilson, the civic chairman of Derbyshire County Council and featured some of the late Queen’s favourite hymns and prayers as well as tributes and the laying of a wreath at the High Altar.
The Very Revd Dr Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby, lead the service and the preacher was the Right Revd Libby Lane, Bishop of Derby. The music for the service was sung by the Boys, Girls and Lay Clerks of the Cathedral Choir.
