Derby Cathedral is launching a Choral and Music Outreach programme over the next year, to take our tradition of musical excellence out into the community across Derby City, as well as encourage wider participation in the Cathedral.
We aim to instil and grow a culture of singing in schools, bring joy and promote wellbeing to children through singing, and bridge the gap seen in many primary schools where a lack of confidence or funding sees children not receiving a musical education.
Derby Cathedral currently offers weekly school-based workshops for a term or academic year, led by a choral specialist from the Cathedral. Outreach projects can end with a final end of term or year celebration performance in the Cathedral with other participating schools and the opportunity to sing alongside the prestigious Derby Cathedral Choir.
As part of our Outreach programme we are also re-establishing the Cathedral’s Junior Choir and launching a Wellbeing Choir. See below for further details.
Our Schools Outreach work brings many benefits. Here are some:

Our Wellbeing Choir is launching soon and will sing weekly on a weekday lunchtime. Singing produces endorphins and has been scientifically proved to help relieve stress and anxiety.
