Statement following the death of H.R.H Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh

Written on 09/04/2021

Derby Cathedral joins the rest of the country in sending sincere condolences to HM Queen and the Royal Family on the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. We give thanks for a lifetime of faithful service to our country, and remember him in our prayers.

The Duke of Edinburgh last visited Derby Cathedral with Her Majesty the Queen in 2010 when the Queen distributed the Royal Maundy.

‘Please join us in prayer as we mourn the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.  May God give comfort to his wife, the Queen, and all his family, as we give thanks for a life which contributed so much to so many.’

The Very Rev’d Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby

The Cathedral will be open later on Friday 09th April until 21:00 for private prayer and reflection, with the opportunity to light a candle as a mark of remembrance.  On Saturday 10th April, the Cathedral will be open 10:00-18:00, 12:00-17:00 on Sunday 11th April, and 10:00-18:00 Monday 12th – Wednesday 14th April.
