Continuing on with tradition Derby Film Festival is back at the Cathedral for Silent Comedy Safety Last!
Harold Lloyd will forever be associated with Safety Last! because of a single image. Even people who have never seen a Lloyd film are familiar with the iconography of a man hanging off the hands of a collapsing clock on the side of a skyscraper. Lloyd was a comic genius and Safety Last! is the perfect introduction to his work. In it he plays a boy who sets out from his hometown to make it in the big city. He gets a position as a department-store sales assistant, although tells his sweetheart that he is one of the store executives and that it will only be a matter of time before he will send for her. His chance to succeed arrives when he overhears the general manager suggesting he would give $1000 to anyone who could attract people to the store, leading to a wild publicity stunt and the iconic scene!
Featuring a brand-new score performed by Derby Cathedral’s Director Of Music Alexander Binns.
