The Sanctuary at Derby Cathedral
The challenges faced by all of us during the pandemic are significant, and the after-effects continue to be with us and are likely to be for some time.
This has resulted in many difficult questions needing to be addressed to ensure that the business of Derby Cathedral continues to support its mission and ministry.
Regrettably, having evaluated the financial obligations of the Sanctuary at Derby Cathedral as we move into an uncertain future, the decision has been taken by Chapter not to re-open it post-Covid.
For the Sanctuary staff, this has obviously come as a bitter blow and, unfortunately, they have now been advised that their posts will be made redundant. This is a very difficult and uncertain time for them, and we ask that you remember the staff who have lost their jobs in your prayers.
Moving forward, the Dean and Chapter do have a desire to fully utilise the Sanctuary space to ensure it benefits the cathedral, and so will take time to look at ways the space can best be used and the opportunities this might bring.
