Derby Cathedral: updates during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) epidemic
Cathedral services and events – safety, health, and updates about what’s on
The country is currently in a national lockdown. The guidance for places of worship is that we can remain open for services and private prayer. We will keep the Cathedral's opening times under review but at present they are as listed below.
The Cathedral is open for prayer at these times:
Monday - Saturday 11.00 am - 3.00 pm (closed on Wednesday)
Sunday 1.00 - 4.00 pm
From Easter Sunday, 4th April, some in-person services have returned to the Cathedral, capacity is very limited and booking is advised. Please see the Worship Online page for full details
Visitors to the Cathedral should avoid mixing with people from other households, be particularly careful about social distancing, and wear a face covering if they are able to. Visitors should provide contact details for Track & Trace - check in with the NHS app as you arrive or fill in a form at the door.
Derby Cathedral joins the rest of the country in sending sincere condolences to HM Queen and the Royal Family on the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. We give thanks for a lifetime of faithful service to our country, and remember him in our prayers.
The Duke of Edinburgh last visited Derby Cathedral with Her Majesty the Queen in 2010 when the Queen distributed the Royal Maundy.
‘Please join us in prayer as we mourn the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. May God give comfort to his wife, the Queen, and all his family, as we give thanks for a life which contributed so much to so many.’
The Very Rev’d Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby.
An online condolence book is open. The Cathedral is open for prayer 10.00 am - 6.00 pm Monday 12th - Thursday 15th April, 10.00 am - 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm - 8.00 pm Friday 16th April, 10.00 am - 6.00 pm Saturday 17th April.

Unfortunately the Cathedral cannot be open for the general public to attend in person, because public health guidance severely restricts the capacity of the building. Please do join the service online from your home, the live stream can be found here: https://youtu.be/x42Kq6ogXUY
Derby Cathedral are to receive £125,600 from second round of the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund. The Cathedral are among more than 2,700 recipients to benefit from the latest round of awards from the £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund.
"The funding is vital in facilitating our return to full opening and financial sustainability. As well as covering core costs at this challenging time, it ensures that necessary work such as a full accessibility audit and maintenance to the East End of the Cathedral is completed, both of which will improve the visitor experience so that everyone feels welcomed and able to engage with all the Cathedral has to offer."
The Very Rev’d Peter Robinson, Dean of Derby

On Sundays, the Cathedral Eucharist will be live-streamed at 10.45 am. Choral Evensong will be live-streamed at 5.15 pm on Sundays and 6.30 pm on Thursdays. Other services in the building are temporarily suspended.
You can find our live streams here.
Full details of services are on the Worship online page, together with resources and links for live-streamed services and for prayer at home.
Please continue to pray for people who are worried, for medical staff, for key workers and for people making hard decisions.
